CDA’s Guidelines for Public Safety Around Dams represent the most comprehensive guidance available to dam owner’s, consultants and regulators on the process to identify risks to public safety and means to mitigate through physical and operational controls.
As part of this year’s conference, we will be offering two 1-Day workshops, with Day 1 focused on the management of public safety, based on the methodologies presented in CDA’s 2011 Guidelines for Public Safety Around Dams, with Day 2 providing practical applications to address risks associated with low-head dams and weirs. While Day 2’s application will leverage the learnings on Day 1, it is not a perquisite – and participants are welcome to attend both days or select to attend either Day 1 or Day 2 as standalone workshops.

A customized workshop to take advantage of being in Saskatoon, home of the University of Saskatchewan and its industry leading research related to low-head dams, as well as the proximity to the Saskatoon Weir, including the unique rescue plans that have been developed by the Saskatoon Fire Department. The workshop will include:
The workshop will draw on Instructors with a wealth of experience in the application of the CDA Guidelines, leading hydraulic engineering researchers from the University of Saskatchewan, and experts in the field of swift water rescue from the Saskatoon Fire Department.
Price includes: breakfasts (7:30 – 8:30), coffee breaks, and lunches (12:00 – 1:00)

Both one-day workshops will interest managers and operators of dams, and their engineering consultants, who are involved in developing Public Safety Management Plans, decision-making related to the implementation of physical and operational control measures and managing incidents. The workshops will also benefit staff engaged in the day-to-day maintenance of public safety at dams, as well as Communications Officers responsible for educating the public on hazards associated with dams and their operation.
