CDA is offering an updated workshop based on the methodologies presented in Guidelines for Public Safety Around Dams. Participants may register for either the first day alone, or for both days.of the workshop will benefit managers and operators of dam facilities who are involved in decisions related to the management of risks, as well as staff engaged in the day-to-day maintenance of public safety at their dams. The elements of a public safety management system will be presented, using case studies to illustrate practical applications of the CDA Guidelines. Methods for risk identification and treatment will be presented, including warning systems, physical and operational controls. The program for Day 1 will cover:
Day 2 of the workshop will be of interest to practitioners who will be carrying out the Risk Assessments for a dam owner (either the dam owner’s technical staff or their consultants). Participants will work through practical examples to apply the worksheets CDA has developed to capture the results of the assessment of public safety risks that can occur at dams and hydropower facilities. The examples will cover a range of dams and hydropower stations, and the controls required to mitigate the risks.
