Director of Dam Safety, McMillen-Jacobs Associates
Catrin has over 30-years of management and engineering experience, and is a registered professional engineer in Canada and the U.S.A. She has extensive power facility management and dam safety expertise. As a utility manager, she led a multi-million dollar operations and capital program, and was responsible for managing all aspects of hydro plant generation, planning, and license implementation. Her engineering experience is in repairs on aging dams and dam safety including dam safety mitigation design, and surveillance and monitoring.
In the past 9 years, Ms. Bryan has led or co-led over 35 dam safety reviews or Part12Ds. The work also includes dam safety monitoring and analysis, instrument installation and reporting, and failure modes analysis.
Catrin is the Past-President of the Canadian Dam Association, a Northwest Hydro Association Board member and is a contributing author for dam monitoring and inspection guidance. She teaches dam safety workshops, and acts as the Chief Dam Safety Engineer for several utilities.
Dam Safety Engineer, Énergie NB Power
Bethanie is the Dam Safety Engineer at NB Power and works in the Hydro Technical Services Group. Prior to joining NB Power in 2018, she worked in dam safety for a consulting company for 18 years. She has a Civil Engineering degree (BSc.Eng 2000) and a Master of Geotechnical Engineering degree (M.Eng 2007).
Bethanie is currently the Regional Director for New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island on the CDA's Board of Directors.
SNC-Lavalin (retired)
Born in the UK, obtained first degree from Manchester (B.Sc.) and then M.A.Sc. in geotechnical engineering from Waterloo, Ont. Has worked entirely in dam design, construction and performance evaluation for hydro, mining and water supply. Experience in Canada and many other countries.
Dam Safety Planning Engineer, BC Hydro
Miranda completed her degree in Civil Engineering at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. She started with BC Hydro in 2014 on the Structural Engineering team where she worked for 6 years in the Generation Civil Design department. Since then, she has worked on numerous projects as a structural designer and an owner's engineer for dams, spillways, and hydroelectric generating stations. As a Regional Planning Engineer in BC Hydro's Dam Safety group, Miranda is responsible for the successful execution of the regulatory compliance and asset management components of BC Hydro's Dam Safety Program within her assigned region.
Director, Hydropower & Dams – Atlantic Canada, WSP
Wendy is a Senior Hydrotechnical Engineer and Project Manager, and is WSP’s National Dam Safety Lead. She has led and participated in Dam Safety Reviews and Dam Breach Studies for clients across Canada and has participated in Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA) at several Canadian hydro sites.
BHP
Chad LePoudre is the Global Practice Lead Tailings for BHP, employed with BHP since August 2019. Prior to joining BHP, Chad was the Vice President of GeoSciences and Materials testing for SNC-Lavalin. He came to SNC-Lavalin in 2011 through acquisition of MDH Engineered Solutions of Saskatoon, SK where we was Vice President of Geotechnical Services and part owner of the company. His career has mostly been focused on provision of engineering services related to tailings storage and dam safety. Chad is also a past president of the Canadian Dam Association and is the current chair of the CDA Mining Dams Committee. Chad completed his Civil Engineering Degree and graduate course work at the University of Saskatchewan. Chad and his family reside near Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
